Shapla Mahfuza Ummay is a graduate student pursuing a PhD in Biophysics. Shapla is originally from Jessore, Bangladesh and has received her BS and MS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Jahangimagar University in Bangladesh. Her previous research experience includes serotyping of Dengue virus of natural Dengue infection. Shapla’s current research project in the Cavagnero lab includes the determination of the structure and dynamics of nascent proteins and their ribosomal interactions in the absence and presence of cofactors by NMR spectroscopy and single-particle Cryo-EM as well as the development of optically enhanced multidimensional NMR spectroscopy (LC-photo-CIDNP) for the hypersiensitive atomic-resolution analysis of biological systems. Some of her hobbies include Walking in the countryside, playing with kittens, and reading non-fictional books.
